Templates: four different tools
App Templates, Service Catalog, App Store, and Compose Templates are not the same thing.

#Which to use
| Tool | What it holds | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| App Templates | 5 hardcoded structs (nginx, node/git, python/git, postgres-compose, redis). | Prefill the app creation wizard. No versions, no install records. |
| Service Catalog | DB rows for databases, caches, queues. | Provisions managed infrastructure with instances, attach links, retention. |
| App Store | DB rows with compose content, params schema, version. | Installs versioned user apps, tracks installs, upgrades, uninstalls. |
| Compose Templates | Admin-saved parameterized stacks with ${KEY} rendering. | Preview, instantiate to a live stack. |
#Rule of thumb
Prefill a form → App Templates. Provision infrastructure (a database) → Service Catalog. Install a versioned app → App Store. Reuse a parameterized stack → Compose Templates. They share no storage and no install records.
